What's the difference between a retirement residence and a Long-Term Care home ?

Nursing homes and Homes for the Aged are now called "Long-Term Care Facilities". They are mostly for seniors who have significant health care issues and require a great deal of care. LTC homes are designed for people who require the availability of 24-hour nursing care and supervision within a secure setting. In general, LTC homes offer higher levels of personal care and support than those typically offered by either retirement homes or supportive housing. Retirement homes are NOT regulated nor funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. LTC homes offer a variety of accommodation options. People living in a home pay a fee for accommodation that is based on the type or style of accommodation. "Preferred Accommodation" is the term used to describe private or semi-private rooms with special features, whereas "Basic or Standard Accommodation" refers to the style of rooms that the home offers in this category. Note that the features of basic and preferred accommodation will vary according to when the particular home was constructed or renovated.


How do I apply for residency for a loved one ?

First, call our Family & Community Coordinator to schedule a personal tour. You will be guided through our state-of-the-art facility and witness the many amenities available. You will also receive our superior services information kit describing the benefits of our unique “Meaningful Living” program…something to suit everyone. You then apply to your local Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). Ontario residents requiring LTC are assessed by their local CCAC. The CCAC will assist you in completing the application forms and determine your eligibility for admission. Once the CCAC approves your application, your chosen residence will be notified. After you have visited with us, we suggest that you apply to your local CCAC as soon as possible, as it will take time to process your application.

How many years has Chester Village been in business ?

We have been providing services for seniors for over 40 years.


Is your staff certified ?

Yes, all of our Personal Support Workers are certified.


Do you offer Physiotherapy at Chester Village ?

Yes, there is a Physiotherapist on-site five days a week.


Does the management team have an open-door policy ?

Yes, we have a “Residents’ Council” and a “Family Council”. We encourage residents, family members and friends to drop by to share both positive feedback and concerns. The Administrator and her team are readily available to meet with anyone.


Can we bring furniture from home for our Mom / Dad ?

Yes, we encourage you to bring pieces of furniture that fit within the scale of the room. Also, decorative items help make Chester Village a “home away from home”.


Are Families / Friends able to join a resident for a meal at Chester Village ?

Yes, you are always welcome to enjoy a meal with us. You can purchase a meal ticket at Client Services.


Are Family pets allowed ?

Usually no. We have our own “Therapy” pets which have been adopted by all. These include, cats, dogs, fish and birds. By special request to the Administrator, family pet visits may be arranged.


How accessible is Chester Village ?

There is public transportation (TTC) right outside our front door.
We are working on buying our own accessible transit vehicle.


Do you need Volunteers ?

Yes we do. There are many wonderful opportunities to enjoy and grow. Volunteers Section
